Describe the process of double fertilization in flowering plants

What will be an ideal response?

Once the two sperm cells reach the egg sac, one haploid sperm nucleus fuses with the egg nucleus, forming the fertilized egg or zygote, which is diploid. The other haploid sperm nucleus fuses with the two nuclei that occupy the large central cell, and this forms the triploid endosperm. Endosperm contains starch that will later nourish the embryo within the seed. The zygote undergoes mitosis and forms the embryo, which later develops into the mature diploid plant.
