What are pods and what purpose do pods have in modern prison designs?
What will be an ideal response?
Most modern prisons are built with prefabricated sections, often referred to as pods. Within these pods, inmates will usually have individual cells with ding doors controlled from a secure remote-control station. When out of their cells, prisoners remain in the cell block or an exterior cage. Movement out of the cell block or pod is tightly restricted, often requiring restraints and escorts by security staff. In maximum-security facilities, inmates may be housed in one- or two-person cells operated from a remote-control station. Inside these facilities, inmates may be allowed to leave their cells to complete work assignments or correctional programs. They may be also allowed in a common area in the cell block or an exercise yard.
