What are the arguments for and against the statutes of repose?
What will be an ideal response?
Statutes of repose bar actions that arise more than a specified number of years after the product was purchased. Statutes of repose are usually much longer than statutes of limitations; they are often at least 10 years, and frequently are 25 or 50 years. Statutes of repose may seem unduly harsh on consumers who may be injured as a result of a latent defect in a product. In contrast, to make the manufacturer liable in perpetuity may be unduly harsh on manufacturers and sellers, because of the resulting uncertainty about possible liability.
