How would you test the clutch for dragging?
What will be an ideal response?
To test for a dragging clutch, with the engine at normal operating temperature:
- With the engine at idle and the transmission in neutral, depress the clutch pedal to the floor.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Shift the transmission into reverse. This should happen smoothly.
Ten seconds should be enough time for the clutch to come to a complete stop, allowing a shift into reverse without gear clashing. If there is a gear clash, the clutch is dragging (not releasing completely).
