problem.
Since this pavement is being designed with two layers, Equation 19.6 can be
modified for use in this problem as:
SN = a1D1 + a2D2m2
3.4 = (0.40)D1 + (0.12)D2(1)
For the 6 inch base course:
3.4 = (0.40)D1 + (0.12)(6)(1)
D1 = 6.7 inches.
For the 12 inch base course:
3.4 = (0.40)D1 + (0.12)(12)(1)
D1 = 4.9 inches.
