Provide an appropriate response. When solving a quadratic equation, why must one side of the equation be equal
What will be an ideal response?
You have to factor the quadratic equation. This means you are looking for two numbers that have a known product. Unless that product is 0 there is an infinite number of possibilities for the two factors. That makes it extremely difficult to solve for the variable. When the product is equal to 0 then one factor or the other has to be zero. That is a much simpler problem to solve.
