What is third-wave feminism? What is cyberfeminism, and how is it leading to a fourth wave?
What will be an ideal response?
Answers will vary but may discuss that by the early 1990s, a third wave of the women's movement emerged. The defining characteristics of the third wave are greater racial and ethnic inclusivity and more focus on problems such as racism, classism, transphobia, and homophobia. The movement addresses the place of women in the larger culture and a variety of specific issues such as the wage gap between men and women, sexual harassment, violence against women, and sexual assault and rape. Cyberfeminism is associated with internet activism. Feminists discuss, debate, and mobilize on a variety of websites. They can use social media and write blogs to raise awareness about their causes. Third-wave feminism leads to women feeling empowered to use the internet to fight back against the patriarchy. Now that women feel empowered to use their voices, cyberfeminism is helping lead to an emerging fourth wave of feminism that is centered on the idea that gender and sexuality are fluid. Reproductive justice is also a key issue of fourth-wave feminism. Fourth-wave feminism may not have been made possible without cyberfeminism because of the visibility cyberfeminism provides.
