Asian Americans have a separate view of the mind and body.

The success of Asian Americans, as indicated by findings such as these, has led researchers and the dominant White American society to label them the “model minority.” William Peterson first coined the term, generalizing that Asian Americans function well in society, are relatively free from negative racial discrimination, and experience few adjustment difficulties. Support for the “model minority” thesis can be found in the Asian cultural values of diligence, frugality, emphasis on educational and occupational achievement, and the ability to maintain “face” in the light of adversity. It is problematic because of the diversity within the Asian American group. Not all Asian Americans fare well and have this same experience, therefore it minimizes the needs and challenges of individuals within this group.
