Though the method described is not the only way to obtain a good spray pattern, it will provide a repeatable method that can result in proper adjustment consistently. This method of gun adjustments starts with air pressure. The technician then adjusts the fluid (trigger) control, then pattern (fan), and then checks the air pressure again, using an air cap pressure gauge to check that it remains as it should. Finally, the technician should spray a small pattern on a test panel to confirm that the gun is adjusted properly. This final check should be performed before either the vehicle is refinished or a complete test panel is sprayed.
