Various types of institutions can be discussed from insane asylums, jails, homes for the poor and aged and homes for children. Students can discuss what seemed to be effective and what the shortcomings were. They can then address some modern concerns. This can be discussed in many ways to prisons being disproportionately African American to another example being deinstitutionalization and the growth of homelessness.
