Why are attachment and intimacy viewed as related, yet, distinct constructs? How has

intimacy been traditionally assessed?

What will be an ideal response?

Attachment representations refer to broad expectancies and beliefs people have
regarding attachment relationships in general. Intimacy, on the other hand, refers to our
emotional, cognitive, and behavioral orientation towards attachment figures. Because
there are multiple components to intimacy, it is somewhat of a difficult construct to
assess. Questionnaires, interviews, and behavior observations have been used to assess
intimacy. A valid assessment of intimacy should include an evaluation of emotional
closeness, the ability to disclose, and the ability to mutually give and receive support.
