The method used most commonly consists of a three-drug sequence. First, a sedative is

administered to calm the person, followed by paralytics so they would hold still, and
finally an injection of potassium chloride to stop the heart and kill the person.

What will be an ideal response?

This
method has come under harsh attack, as it is often administered incorrectly, for
example, with insufficient sedatives to dull the pain of the later procedures. Supporters of
this technique argue that the convicted murderers had no such compassion for their
victims when they committed the crime. Opponents consider this cruel and unusual; as it
is being administered on behalf of the society at large, it should at least be humane.
Philosophically analyze both sides of this debate to consider whether this method is or is
not cruel and unusual punishment.
