Describe a program you would devise to assist older adults at risk for suicide?
What will be an ideal response?
Comprehensive Programs could be developed for both prevention and treatment. Training could be available to health care providers but also those who come into regular contact with older adults. Workshops could be held at community centers, religious institutions and within senior housing. Families could be invited to participate and become educated on signs and symptoms of depression as well as the significant relationships between depression, substance use and suicide. Programs that promote social interactions and reengagement with purposeful life roles could be instituted for treatment of those at risk.
