Does the 1992 Basel Convention advance or hinder environmental justice? Explain your reasoning.

What will be an ideal response?

The Basel Convention is an international treaty that bans the shipping of hazardous waste to or through other countries without their permission. Environmental justice is an ideal whereby every person is entitled to protection from environmental hazards regardless of race, gender, age, national origin, income, social class or any political factor. Poor or developing countries must give their permission before rich or developing countries can bring hazardous waste. Therefore the treaty protects the rights of developing countries in maintaining a healthy environment and represents a significant advancement of global environmental justice.
