Adlerian therapy does have some cultural blind spots which include the theory’s emphasis on individual choice, which may be offensive to individuals who come from cultures that are oriented toward the group rather than the individual. Likewise, its egalitarian relationship between the therapist and the client may cause difficulties with clients from cultures that view therapists as the experts. Some non-Western cultures view the therapist as an expert, and they may desire to instructed what to do or how to remedy their situation.
