The authors of your textbook suggest that sampling bias is virtually unavoidable and that it is important to disclose and discuss possible sources of bias in the study report. Do you agree? Explain your position
What will be an ideal response?
Students should agree that disclosure of possible sources of bias is important for interpreting findings and evaluating the validity of the study. Readers need to know not only the findings of research but also the integrity of the research project. Novice researchers may feel that disclosure of weaknesses in the study will impede their chances of publication or harm their professional reputation. However, failure to acknowledge and discuss the implications of possible sampling bias is probably the greater indicator of lack of professionalism or expertise.
