Explain why arrhythmia is one of the most the common early complications of myocardial infarction

What will be an ideal response?

Suggested response: Myocardial ischaemia results in changes in myocardial cell function including generation and conduction of action potentials. Infarcted tissue cannot contribute to conduction so conduction must follow different pathways and is therefore slow, whereas ischaemic tissue has a lower fibrillatory threshold and may generate chaotic beats. Ventricular responses to changing loads as the myocardium dies may also contribute.
