Briefly explain packet switching
What will be an ideal response?
With packet switching, the data are broken into units called packets. Individual packets are sent though the packet-switching cloud from the sender to the receiver. Between the sender and the receiver, and within the cloud, are many packet-switching devices. The connection between each packet-switching device is referred to as a link, rather than a path. Packet switching significantly improves line efficiency because packet streams from different communications can use the same links between packet-switching nodes. Links are not dedicated to one single communication, but can be used by many communications. In this way, packet-switched services do not use a dedicated path between the sender and the receiver, as with circuit-switched services, but instead have a series of shared links between packet-switching nodes.
