Briefly describe what is meant by methodological and statistical control in a between-subjects experiment.

What will be an ideal response?

Methodologically, participants are selected in such a way that random assignment can be used, which will make individual differences about the same in each group. Statistically, another level of control is added by using a test statistic to determine the likelihood that something other than the manipulation caused the differences in a dependent measure between groups.
