Explain why it is important to use control groups in an experiment.

What will be an ideal response?

May vary. Control groups provide researchers with insights on what would happen
to a group that receives no treatment. This provides insight so we can understand the
effect as the difference between what did happen when people got the treatment and what would have happened had they not gotten it. This provides greater certainty that the effect is due to that variable and not something else.
