Discuss strategies for successfully teaching difficult, slow-to-warm-up, and emotional children in the classroom.

What will be an ideal response?

When working with difficult children, avoid confrontations and power struggles, maximize time-on-task, reflect on the cause of the misbehavior, and evaluate the physical context of the classroom. Help shy students get started on activities, and allow them to join group activities at their own pace. Avoid pairing them with difficult children. Model controlled emotions when dealing with emotional children. Show them how to use self-talk and breathing techniques to reduce their frustration and regulate emotions.
