In what ways can substance abuse become a problem on the jobsite?
What will be an ideal response?
Substance abuse can be a significant safety problem for the contractor. Quite often, habitual abuse and being "under the influence" of illegal drugs and/or alcohol is a sickness that requires outside treatment. The use of prescription drugs also can pose a hazard for the worker, causing side effects such as drowsiness, hyperactivity, or possible dependency. Supervisors on the job must always be aware of the physical and mental condition of employees. Too often a "problem" employee is ignored, resulting in a serious accident where an employee might injure oneself or others in the work area.
