What are presentation aids? Explain the pros and cons of incorporating them into a presentation. Explain a scenario when you used a presentation aid. What was the outcome? (Alternatively, you may explain a presentation that you observed that used a presentation aid.)
What will be an ideal response?
Presentation aids are audio and visual tools such as objects, video clips, and
PowerPoint presentations. Presentation aids can, if used properly, enhance audience
understanding, stimulate the audience, enhance audience retention, enhance audience
attention, and enhance speaker credibility. If not used properly, presentation aids can
become a distraction from the main focus, which is the speaker’s presentation. Most
people have observed a presentation with poorly designed PowerPoint slides as the
presentation aid. Slides with too much text distract the audience. Similarly, if the
speaker reads off the slides, the audience knows that he or she is not fully prepared,
thus reducing the speaker’s credibility.
