If two stations simultaneously attempt to transmit on the inbound frequency, the signals will
interfere and the two transmissions will be garbled. We use the term collision, and say that the two
transmitted packets collide in the medium. The protocol handles a collision by requiring a sender to
retransmit each lost packet.
