Complicated malaria can present with anemia, low blood pressure (hypotension), low blood glucose (hypoglycemia), and/or excessive acidity of the blood (acidosis). Kidney failure, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and malarial infection of the brain are also possible in severe cases.
