What are the main characteristics of entrepreneurs? Speculate on the "downside" of the entrepreneurial personality within the typical organization.
What will be an ideal response?
Entrepreneurs are highly motivated, very optimistic, willing to take responsibility for the outcomes of projects. They view uncertainty as an opportunity. Ambiguity does not unnerve them. The are highly committed to innovation, and are willing to undertake tasks even when there are insufficient resources. Entrepreneurs are also courageous. Successful entrepreneurs can make unique connections among seemingly unconnected events and see possibilities that others haven't noticed. Successful entrepreneurs develop the capabilities that will be the basis of competitive advantages requires to make a profit from pursuing the opportunities. The "downside" of the entrepreneurial personality is that it may not fit well within the typical organization's culture. Entrepreneurs are risk-takers and single-minded. They may be impatient with organizational caution, restrictions, or bureaucracy. Entrepreneurs are willing to risk personal failure, but the organization culture may punish failure. Even though entrepreneurs can be found at all levels of the organization, risk taking and failure are less tolerated at lower levels of the organization than at higher levels.
