Describe conventions and their purpose in academic writing.
What will be an ideal response?
Ans: Answer would ideally include: The research process adheres to certain conventions, which are agreed-on procedures that help ensure the accuracy of data and findings. These conventions contribute to the validity of research and increase our confidence in the research results. When research conventions are not followed, the credibility of the research--and perhaps of the researcher--can be called into question. The same is true for research reports. They, too, are prepared according to conventions that promote both readability and credibility. It is important that you recognize these conventions and follow them when preparing any type of research report. Failure to comply with conventions does not render research invalid (per se), but a researcher’s credibility can be damaged by unconventional report styles and formats.
