According to the modern theories on how life formed on Earth, prokaryotes are thought to have evolved before eukaryotes. Provide evidence to support that pattern of evolution based on the composition of the early Earth's atmosphere

What will be an ideal response?

When the Earth formed, the atmosphere was hot and filled with many gases, but oxygen was not present. For most eukaryotes, key physiological and biochemical events (i.e., meiosis, metabolism) depend on high levels of oxygen, whereas most known prokaryotes either can function without oxygen or cannot tolerate it at all. This evidence argues that prokaryotes evolved when oxygen levels in the atmosphere were low or absent, and eukaryotes did not appear until oxygen was already present.
