Using the research cited in the text, describe the consequences of prejudice and discrimination for both those who are the objects of prejudice and discrimination and for the society at large. If you were conducting this research today, would your findings be different? Why or why not?

What will be an ideal response?

The ideal answer should include:
1. Robert Coles' (2003) research: children were conditioned to fear and distrust members of the other race, but that with continuing friendly contact, these prejudices were broken down.
2. Internalized racism, is the personal conscious or subconscious acceptance of the dominant society's racist views, stereotypes, and biases of one's ethnic group.
3. Racial/ethnic/cultural socialization: teaching children about their cultural heritage, and providing children with the coping skills necessary to develop and maintain a strong and healthy self-image in the face of possible prejudice and discrimination.
