Discuss at length the critical role of using Photoshop to communicate critical visual data to your audience.

What will be an ideal response?

Communicating critical visual data to clients, peers, and coworkers is an important— and sometimes challenging—task in a variety of industries, including technical fields, such as genetic research, architecture, and engineering. Using the tools in Photoshop, you can solve this problem by making adjustments to images that will focus a viewer’s attention on the parts of an image that are most important. For example, imagine you are working with a researcher who will be presenting a lecture on mutations in the frog population near a hazardous waste dump. Some of the mutations are obvious, but others require a more trained eye to see. So how could you help the researcher solve the problem and make the mutations more visible to the audience? You could use the selection and adjustment tools in Photoshop to manipulate the image so that the physical features that need to be highlighted are more prominent. For example, you could darken the area around a feature or change the contrast so that the feature stands out. Or, imagine that you’re working for a structural engineer who is preparing a report that includes archived images of a building that collapsed in a minor earthquake. To highlight the weak areas of the design, you could select them and change their brightness or contrast to draw attention to them in the report. Photoshop offers a variety of tools to help solve the problem of needing to communicate critical visual data in technical and nontechnical fields. As you get more experience with Photoshop, you’ll find you have more skills at your disposal to solve this type of problem in a variety of settings.
