Why is it difficult to estimate the prevalence of sexual orientation in adolescents?

What will be an ideal response?

First, many sexual minority youth do not identify themselves that way until early adulthood or later. Second, reporting of same-sex attraction and behavior is not stable. A study of 7th- to 12-grade students over a 6-year period revealed migration over time in both directions--from opposite-sex attraction/behavior to same-sex attraction/behavior and vice versa.
