Describe the difference between difference feminists and liberal feminists in regard to international relations.
What will be an ideal response?
Difference feminists believe there is an inherent difference between women and men. This difference is caused both by genetics/hormones and societal influences. Women tend to be more peaceful and cooperative; men tend to be more aggressive and competitive. As a result, having more women leaders in international relations will foster more peace and diplomatic solutions. On the other hand, liberal feminists do not believe that women have more peacekeeping and cooperative abilities than men. Indeed, woman can be as aggressive as men in international relations. However, women often provide different perspectives on issues than men. This difference is shown when the number of women in political positions of governmental bodies reaches about 30 percent or more. Under these conditions, the female difference can be seen in the types of decision making used and the types of issues pursued. For example, a legislature with 35 percent women will more likely pursue social policies with other countries than will a legislature with 25 percent women. Therefore, for liberal feminists, having a more equal mix of female and male politicians makes all the difference in international relations.
