Why is the axon the only cellular projection in sensory neurons?

What will be an ideal response?

Sensory neurons do not receive signals from other cells, so the axon is their only cytoplasmic extension. One end of this axon has receptor endings that detect a specific stimulus; the other has signal-sending axon terminals. Interneurons and motor neurons both receive and send signals, so they have dendrites as well as an axon.
