Explain and give examples why timely submission of claims to insurance companies is recommended for a medical office.

What will be an ideal response?

When claims are backlogged, the reimbursement process is stalled, affecting other aspects of the job. Tracking and follow-up of slow-paying and suspended claims become more difficult, since claims were submitted late to begin with. Patient billing, which is next in the reimbursement process after insurance billing, is negatively affected, since the patient receives statements well after services were rendered, presenting a collections problem. Overall cash flow is unnecessarily slowed down if billing is not done on a frequent basis. If claims are allowed to pass time deadlines without submission, some insurance companies can deny payment.
