Differentiate between proactive supervision and broken window probation

What will be an ideal response?

Answers will vary. To answer this question, students can differentiate between the two terms or they could make specific references to Table 5.4 which closely examines the differences between the two strategies (on page 113 of the text). Simply speaking, in the broken window approach, the probation officer is asked to increase communication and partnership with the community. The proactive supervision model is more structured, prescriptive, controlled, and evidence-based.
They are essentially two styles of striving to reach the same goal: success and progress for probationers while maintaining community safety and security.
