Describe the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.

What will be an ideal response?

PTSD is usually characterized by recurrent, intrusive memories of the event. The biological, psychological, and social effects of trauma are severe enough to have impaired a person’s social and occupational functioning. Symptoms include intense fear, helplessness, or horror, different mood states, negative cognition, or dissociative symptoms. The victims continually re-experience the traumatic event in their thoughts and reactions, consistently avoid things that remind them of the incident, and have persistent symptoms of high levels of anxiety and stress that were not present before the trauma.
