What is the function of the zona glomerulosa of the suprarenal cortex?
What will be an ideal response?
It secretes mineralocorticoids, steroid hormones that affect the electrolyte composition of body fluids. These hormones affect the retention of water and sodium ions, reducing fluid losses in the urine, sweat glands, salivary glands, and along the digestive tract. The zona glomerulosa is stimulated by falling sodium or rising potassium levels in the blood, or by the presence of the hormone angiotensin II, produced in the lungs.
