Differences between boys and girls include the following: girls score lower on the math sections of the SAT and ACT, especially at the higher achievement levels; and women score lower on all sections of the Graduate Record Exam, the Medical College Admissions Test, and admissions tests for law, dental, and optometry schools. Boys outnumber girls in remedial English and math classes, are held back in grade more often, and are twice as likely to be placed in special education classes; boys consistently receive lower grades than girls, and score lower than girls on both direct and indirect measures of writing skills; boys are more likely to be involved in serious misbehavior; they drop out of school 4 times more often than girls; and boys earn fewer bachelor's,master's, and doctoral degrees than do women.
