Explain the difference between a vocal nodule and a vocal polyp

What will be an ideal response?

Vocal nodules are benign growths of the vocal folds resulting from vocal abuse. They first can start off as soft and pliable, but with continuous trauma they can become hard and fibrous. They appear on the vocal folds about a third of the way from their attachment in the front. They can be unilateral or bilateral. Nodules are likely to return if behavior is not changed. Therefore, behavioral therapy can help reduce the nodules paired with surgically removing them. Vocal polyps are also benign laryngeal growth but occur about one third of the ways up on the vocal fold. Polyps occur from a single event, such as yelling, and they are unilateral and remain soft and pliable. Voice therapy can successfully remove polyps and should

be considered if a person decides to surgically remove the polyp to avoid recurrences of the problem.
