Describe a chronological and functional resume.  When would you use each type of resume?

What will be an ideal response?

A chronological resume, sometimes called a reverse-chronological resume, presents your work experience and education sorted by date. Entries start with the most recent position held (or school attended) and work backwards. Include more detail for your most recent entries and less for those further in the past. The chronological style is the most popular with recruiters and hiring managers because it shows a clear time line of your employment. If you have a relatively steady work history and several relevant positions, the chronological format is usually your best choice.

A functional resume, also called a skills resume, highlights your skills and abilities instead of your work history. The functional format breaks the resume into several categories and showcases the talents, responsibilities, and accomplishments you can demonstrate through college classes, volunteer work, employment, hobbies, or other means. The functional resume is appropriate for students with limited work experience, career changers, or people with irregular work histories. Functional resumes are also popular in certain industries, such as the arts, graphic design, and Web development.
