Should you mention a salary figure in an application? Explain. ?

Because salary is such an influential factor in employment, use “negotiable” as the salary desired. Don’t risk eliminating yourself before you have a chance to present your qualifications in an interview. Save any discussion of salary until the employer has expressed a definite interest in you. If you are required to enter a salary figure, use the following tips:

  • If the position is advertised at a set, nonnegotiable salary, list that figure.

  • List a range based on your salary research. Review Chapter 12 for more information on how to research salary ranges.

  • If you are not allowed to type a range, pick the midpoint of the range and list that figure.
