Describe the behaviors instilled in students as they work in cooperative learning activities that prepare them to reason and perform in an adult world

What will be an ideal response?

By bringing students together in cooperative learning groups students learn the following behaviors:
1. Adults form their attitudes and values from social interaction. In the same way cooperative learning provides the following advantages:
a. The exchange of ideas helps shape our views and perspectives
b. This exchange turns lifeless facts into feelings then into attitudes and values that guide our behavior

2.When learners come together in adult-like settings, if carefully planned and executed, they provide appropriate models of social behavior. This is modeled by the teacher.

3. Confronted with alternative perspectives and viewpoints, students are forced into the objectivity necessary for thinking critically, reasoning, and problem solving. They become less self-centered. Through this exchange of viewpoints, students grow and their own attitudes and values become clear.

4. Social interaction in the form of cooperative learning activities helps students develop personalities. The main result is that inconsistencies and contradictions in within a student cannot be hidden. Within the cooperative group, contradictions can be resolved to clarify what the student really believes.

5. Cooperative learning actively engages student in the learning process. Critical thinking cannot occur outside the context of the previous four benefits. Analyzing, synthesizing, and decision-making are believed to be stimulated by interaction with others.
