Describe precast concrete columns and their formation with regard to precast concrete construction.

What will be an ideal response?

?Precast columns can be connected with precast concrete beams, to form a post-and-beam structural framework. Most precast concrete columns are reinforced conventionally. If they are pre-stressed, this is done mainly to reduce stresses on the column during transportation and handling. Square sizes range from 10 to 24 in. (254 to 619 mm). Rectangular columns vary, depending on the design. Columns up to 60 ft. (18 m) in length can be transported. Those above that size need special arrangements. Columns are often designed to incorporate haunches, projections used to support beams, on two or three sides. Concrete quality may range from 5,000 to 11,000 psi (48 to 76 MPa).
