How did the geocentric model and the heliocentric model of the universe explain retrograde motion?

What will be an ideal response?

The geocentric model relied on epicycles to explain retrograde motion. In the heliocentric model, Earth moves faster along its orbit than the planets that lie farther from the Sun. Consequently, Earth periodically overtakes and passes these planets. The result is retrograde motion as observed from Earth.
