(i) Student Verbalizations- have students verbalize the procedure they are employing in solving a given task. Teacher analyzes responses and implements teaching strategies that address the specific problems. Evaluating students’ communication and learning of mathematics can be done through interviewing techniques.
(ii) Journal Writing- has the benefit of assessing the mathematical thinking of an entire class at once. Through journal writing, teachers may be able to identify whether students are choosing to use mathematical procedures, principles, and facts without being cued or questioned on tests. Journal writing may be able to identify when students are distinguishing strategies within the problem-solving process
