Discuss the prevalence of loneliness and how it differs from isolation

?As many as 80 percent of those under age 18 and 40 percent of adults over age 65 report being lonely at least some of the time. In the ACHA national survey, 59.2 percent of undergraduates reported feeling very lonely at some time in the past 12 months. Loneliness, defined as "feelings of distress and dysphoria resulting from a discrepancy between a person's desired and achieved social relations," stems from perceived, rather than actual, isolation. People may live relatively solitary lives and not feel lonely or, conversely, surround themselves with people yet feel lonely nonetheless.
