What are the steps involved in static timing the ignition system?

1. With the number 1 cylinder on its compression stroke, align the timing indicator at the crank pulley to the desired timing specification.
2. Install the distributor with the rotor pointing to the number 1 plug cable.
3. Rotate the distributor body until the armature pole piece aligns with the permanent magnet.
4. Tighten the distributor holddown.
