A strong answer will define evaluation research as the applied systematic assessment of the need for, implementation of, or output of a program based on objective criteria. In addition, to providing various reasons as to why this type of research is useful, such as assessing a program’s performance, identifying if the program is accomplishing its intended goals, identifying if the program is effective, it can provide accountability to those funding the program, and lastly, it can be used to gather evidence that can be used to educate those in the community about beneficial programs.
