Outline four types of popular diet plans, and comment on the success of each plan

What will be an ideal response?

Low-carbohydrate and very-low-carbohydrate diets are high-protein diets that involve drastic reduction of carbohydrate intake. Examples are the Atkins diet and the Zone Diet. Low-carbohydrate diets may be high in fat and cholesterol, and the initial weight loss is attributed to water loss. The success in keeping weight off over time is minimal because many people will return to their pre-diet eating habits and regain weight (although this can happen with any type of restrictive diet). Low-fat diets strictly limit fat intake (the Ornish Diet is a low-fat vegetarian plan but some low-fat plans allow limited amounts of animal products). Advocates of low-fat diets claim that this type of diet is beneficial in regard to reducing blood cholesterol levels and the risk of cardiovascular disease. The LEARN diet is a low-fat, calorie-restricted diet that is considered to be nutritionally balanced. The Weight Watchers plan involves calorie restriction and promotes healthy eating and exercise as the basis for weight loss.
