John Donne's poem "For Whom the Bell Tolls" is used by the textbook author to make a point about disenfranchised grief. Explain how the poem helps illustrate the concept of disenfranchised grief.
What will be an ideal response?
John Donne's poem "For Whom the Bell Tolls" is used by the author to remind readers that a loss of a pet, or a distant relative, can evoke a difficult grief response from a person. While others may think it is time to "move on," it is important to remember that grieve is a personal process and we need to show empathy to people even if we are not feeling the same way about their loss. Their loss is just as important as our loss; therefore, the bell "tolls for thee."
